Jakarta – Ministry of Tourism and Mastercard-CrescentRating is launching an Indonesia Muslim Travel Index (IMTI) based on the standard of the Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI). There are ten halal tourist destinations in Indonesia that have been chosen and technically built using the standard of GMTI.
“Muslim travelers are remarkably progressive now. Indonesia commits to be the global player in the halal tourism business since Indonesia is the biggest Muslim population country in the world”, Anang Sutono, the leader of Halal Tourism Development and Acceleration, explained in the event of IMTI 2019 launching, last week.
The ten halal tourist destinations that have been chosen and technically built using the standard of GMTI are Aceh, Riau dan Kepulauan Riau, West Sumatera, DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java (Malang Raya), Lombok, dan South Sulawesi (Makassar and nearby).
In order to be able to compete in the next Global Muslim Travel Index 2019, those ten destinations have been given guidance, monitored and evaluated. Ministry of Tourism is targeting that Indonesia will be in the first place in GMTI 2019.
“Indonesia has grown four aspects of GMTI beyond any other countries. IMTI encourages each province to develop its own halal tourist destinations. Both government and halal tourist entrepreneurs strongly determine to build this industry significantly”, Arief Yahya said
Indonesia was in the second place along with United Arab Emirate in the GMTI 2018. Malaysia was number one as the best halal tourism country in 2018.
These are the rank of GMTI 2018: 1. Malaysia; 2. Indonesia dan UAE; 3. Turkey; 4. Saudi Arabia 5. Singapore; 6. Qatar; 7. Bahrain; 8. Oman, dan 9. Maroco.
